Book of Revelation introduction – interpretations

To my understanding, there are four major interpretations to the book of Revelation.

Preterist – it was fulfilled in John’s day

Historicist – is fulfilled throughout history through the church

Idealist – timeless truths that are always relevant

Futurist – will one day be fulfilled

Personally, I hold all four. I believe, like the virgin birth prophecy, it was fulfilled in John’s day, just as the young woman conceived in Isaiah’s. I believe this book also shows the timeline of what was to come, which for us is history. I believe that if it is true enough to reveal all of history before it happened, it is true enough to impact daily living. If this is how God destroys, He doesn’t change, big or small. And I believe that if all that is true, that one day there will be a literal fulfillment, just as Jesus was literally raised from the dead.
