Independence Day
What is the significance of Independence Day based on Scripture? When Jesus was being betrayed, He said the Father could put twelve legions of angels at His disposal if He requested. I believe one for each of the twelve disciples. A legion is 6,000 men. The population of the smallest colony at around the time of independence was a little over a legion; the greatest had over fifty legions. If Jesus and His twelve disciples were to each get at least a legion of men, declare independence from the world to serve God, that would be the elements of the United States’ beginning.
Independence day is a celebration of thirteen colonies claiming freedom to pursue God however they wanted based on Scripture. It is celebrated with fireworks and various types of celebratory gatherings and barbecues. I believe this is prophetic of a one-day eternal independence from sin when Jesus returns. There will be a rapture where in the twinkling of an eye we will be caught up to Him and changed to become like Him, which I believe is symbolized by the fireworks, lights in the sky. When Jesus returns, I believe there will be many celebratory gatherings, with the Wedding being one example. I believe people will get commended for the great acts performed for the gospel much like a graduation ceremony, and other award type gatherings, which I do not believe we got a pattern of from ourselves. And I believe the barbecue represents the other part of His return that many are dreading.
Origin of the fireworks I believe is in Exodus when the twelve tribes led by the pillar of cloud gained their independence from Egypt and met God at Mount Sinai. There at the mountain there was a great storm of lightning, and God’s voice booming like a trumpet.
16 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. (Exodus 19:16)
