Halloween

If you were alive during the crucifixion, what would you have done? Would you have celebrated? Hidden, like some of the disciples? Fed the crowd, like Jesus previously did after John’s execution? Would you have been at His feet as He was mocked and crucified like His mother, sisters, and brother; or would you be asking permission to clothe His body because He had already died and not yet resurrected like a man coincidentally named Joseph? Would you be the one mocking in disbelief like the religious leaders of the day?

To my understanding, Halloween is a celebration where the occult performs sacrifices and gathers publicly; the same elements of the crucifixion. At nightfall, all types of spirits are welcome to wander the streets going door to door asking for teaching or food (trick or treat). However, there is no longer any killing, the lion walks with the lamb, and the child can put his hand in a den of deadly snakes and come out with candy instead of a bite. On the day Jesus was crucified, the sky was darkened at midday, the tombs were opened, and many of those who had died before were allowed to enter the holy city and appear to many. Concerning these rose saints:

37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated 38 (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. (Hebrews 11:37-38)

So, although to the pure, all things are pure, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and it is said in Proverbs, all who hate Him love death.

Concerning giving out candy; I do not believe it is a sin to give to those who ask, and Jesus said do not stop the children from coming to Him. If you have passed the test, Jesus is living inside of you, and perhaps the children requesting to knock on your door will have no access to a “church” in their childhood. However, we are not to be conformed to the patterns of the world around us, and if all they see is the same thing from the other houses, fear and death, perhaps we do not have the light we thought we did.

Concerning the jack-o-lanterns, searching the roots of Halloween and the number of martyrs that gave their lives for the gospel, perhaps it is the dark Gentile version of the potter and the clay. No matter what happens it was for a reason, there was a picture trying to be portrayed, and light shines from within it when it is all over.

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6)
