Instructions given to members of the church of Sardis by the Lord Jesus Christ are as follows:

Passage

Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. (Revelation 3:2-3)

Understanding

Wake up, strengthen the things that remain, remember what you have received and heard, and repent. Simon had a name that he was alive, Peter, but he denied Jesus. Peter knew the word, he would deny Jesus three times and then a rooster would crow. Yet it still caught him by surprise because up until this point, he had remained sleeping until the time of judgment. After turning, his first sign of repentance is John getting to the tomb first. When the disciples didn’t know what to do, he takes them back to fishing. God redirects him to remember what he received during the ministry.

Risk warning

If you do not wake up, Jesus will come like a thief, and you will not know when He’s coming.

Wake up

45 When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Luke 22:45-46)

Strengthen what remains

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; 32 but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32)

Remember what you have received

12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. (2 Peter 1:12-15)

Repent

24 So Simon Peter gestured to him, and said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.” (John 13:24)

(Galatians 2:11 x 2 Peter 3:15-16)

Jesus will come like a thief

61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” (Luke 22:61)
