Moses and the Rock

Why was Moses punished for striking the rock for water the second time?

1 Corinthians 10:4 says concerning the Israelites in the desert:

and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

God does nothing Unless He reveals his secret counsel To His servants the prophets, (Amos 3:7) so when Moses struck the rock for water the second time instead of speaking to it, he wasn’t giving the right counsel. Jesus would only be struck at the cross at His first coming. He will not be struck at His Second Coming.
