Thoughts of man
11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man,
That they are a mere breath. (Psalm 94:11)
The word “mere” is implied, which is why I believe when God has Nathan rebuke David for Bathsheba, he compares the thoughts David had to sleep with Bathsheba as a traveler and wayfarer.
4 “Now a traveler came to the rich man,
And he was unwilling to take from his own flock or his own herd,
To prepare for the wayfarer who had come to him;
Rather he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” (2 Samuel 12:4)
43 “Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. (Matthew 12:43)
