Enoch “the seventh from” Adam
What is significant about Enoch being “the seventh from” Adam?
It took seven days for God to get “rest” after creation. It took seven generations after the fall for God to regain His rest with man.
Dead flies make a perfumer’s oil stink, so a little foolishness is weightier than wisdom and honor. (Ecclesiastes 10:1)
Before Jesus came when people “had an excuse” to be godless, Enoch wasn’t. There is now no excuse, and according to the rest of Jude, the people making excuses always have.
10 Is there anything of which one might say,
“See this, it is new”?
Already it has existed for ages
Which were before us. (Ecclesiastes 1:10)
Just because Enoch came from Adam, didn’t hold him back from a fruitful relationship with God.
20 The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself. (Ezekiel 18:20)
