The blessing and curse of Perez

¹² Moreover, may your house be like the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the offspring which the LORD will give you by this young woman.” (Ruth 4:12)

Why the house of Perez? Ruth was a Moabite, and according to Deuteronomy 23:3,

³ No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of the LORD; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the LORD, (Deuteronomy 23:3)

Without this blessing, David would have been excluded from being king. However, from Perez to David is ten generations, allowing him to be exempted from the curse. When you give authority to someone too quickly you can share responsibility of their sins. The original sins of Moab and Ammon were their origin, they are the offspring of Lot and his daughters. Perhaps they did not know how serious God was about the curse, which is why they were punished prior to.
