Should we have welfare?
“Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. (Ezekiel 16:49)
Because Deuteronomy 15:4 does say,
However, there will be no poor among you, since the LORD will surely bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess,
But also verse 11,
For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’
And though we do not have tribes, people scattered throughout the land who do not have a land inheritance of their own such as the tribe of Levi would be the poor. (Hebrews 8:5)
But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; (James 1:9)
Remember that God once told a man to move to another land and that He would bless those who blessed him and the one who cursed him, God would curse. (Genesis 12:1-3)
And in Amos 9:7 it says,
“Are you not as the sons of Ethiopia to Me, O sons of Israel?” declares the LORD. “Have I not brought up Israel from the land of Egypt, And the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?
And what does it mean to be blessed by God?
How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, You will be happy and it will be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine Within your house, Your children like olive plants Around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the Lord. (Psalm 128:1-4)
