Jesus’ bloodline – cities of refuge
then you shall select for yourselves cities to be your cities of refuge, that the manslayer who has killed any person unintentionally may flee there. ‘The cities shall be to you as a refuge from the avenger, so that the manslayer will not die until he stands before the congregation for trial. (Numbers 35:11-12)
We do not have these types of cities of refuge to my knowledge, but we have the blood of Jesus that does better, keeping us safe until we stand before the Great White Throne of Judgment (Revelation 20:11-12). I believe this is why in Numbers 35:6 it says,
“The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.
Because in Jesus’ bloodline in the gospel of Matthew, it lists 42 generations of fathers and 6 mothers.
Matthew 1:17 summarizes the 42 generations. It says,
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.
Fourteen generations multiplied by 3 is 42. Five of the mothers are also listed in chapter 1, verses 3, 5, 6 and 16; being Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary. The sixth is revealed by Jesus in Matthew 12:50 when He says,
“For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
