Bridegroom of blood
“Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Israel is My son, My firstborn.
“So I said to you, ‘Let My son go that he may serve Me’; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”
Now it came about at the lodging place on the way that the LORD met him and sought to put him to death. Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and threw it at Moses’ feet, and she said, “You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me.” So He let him alone. At that time she said, “You are a bridegroom of blood”- because of the circumcision.
Exodus 4:22-26
At this point it can be assumed that Moses’ son is over eight days old. The commandment to circumcise was given before Moses to Abraham, so his son not being circumcised we can gather there may have been a disagreement on this and because the wife had more support she had won the disagreement up until this point.
But now, since they were on their way to judge the world power at that time for their lack of obedience, Moses’ complete submission in the one thing God had given His people to practice up until that point was required. When the time of judgment comes, it begins with His house.
